Oblivion Remastered Faces Persistent Camera and Crash Issues, Experts Urge Swift Fixes

Tech analysts report that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is grappling with significant performance challenges across all consoles, as players eagerly await a critical update.

Oblivion Remastered has seen a blockbuster launch, boasting over 4 million players and a ‘very positive’ Steam review score. Yet, persistent performance issues continue to mar the experience.

No platform escapes unscathed: PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series consoles all face traversal stutters while exploring the open world. Additionally, frame rates frequently dip below 60fps, with performance degrading over extended playtime, likely due to a memory leak. Worst of all, frequent crashes to the system menu occur when loading saves too often, affecting all PlayStation and Xbox versions.

How do these issues play out in-game? Digital Foundry notes that a “seasoned” playthrough with prolonged playtime performs worse than a fresh start. Cycling through saves introduces bugs, Morgan explained, including a peculiar issue where the camera sits too high while horseback riding, fixable only by restarting the game.

The revelation of performance degradation tied to a potential memory leak is particularly troubling. Crashes triggered by excessive save loading further compound the problem.

Players and analysts alike hope Bethesda will address these issues promptly, as extended time in the sprawling fantasy RPG increases the likelihood of encountering these setbacks.

“This is a critical situation for any remaster, and Virtuos must prioritize stabilizing the game, especially addressing the crashes,” Morgan emphasized.

Digital Foundry’s analysis raises concerns, suggesting Oblivion Remastered may have been rushed to release. A hotfix has been issued for Xbox Series X, but PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro versions are still awaiting similar updates.
