A remake of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion will have big changes to game mechanics

A recent report by MP1st reveals details about a rumored, unannounced remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The information, reportedly sourced from the anonymized portfolio of a former Virtuos Studios developer, suggests a significant undertaking. The project, utilizing Unreal Engine 5, will reportedly feature extensive overhauls.

This purported remake will not simply be a remaster, as previously suggested by leaked Microsoft documents. Instead, Virtuos is apparently reimagining core mechanics. Expect significant changes to stamina management, stealth, combat blocking (drawing inspiration from Soulslike titles to address criticisms of the original's system), archery, damage feedback, and the user interface. The damage calculation system is being reworked to include more visible reactions to attacks, and the stamina system is intended to be more intuitive. The UI and archery mechanics will also receive modernizations.

While MP1st's sources confirmed the Oblivion remake won't appear at the upcoming Developer_Direct, speculation persists that a reveal, and potentially even a release, could happen later this year.
