Capcom is diligently working to enhance the performance of Monster Hunter Wilds before its eagerly awaited launch, while also exploring ways to reduce the PC's GPU requirements. Dive in to discover Capcom's strategy for optimizing this thrilling game.
Capcom has announced efforts to boost Monster Hunter Wilds' performance, as shared on the game's German Twitter (X) account on January 19, 2025.
Monster Hunter Germany released a video featuring a hunter engaging with Quematrice, a rooster-like brute wyvern, demonstrating the smoother gameplay achieved through the updated Prioritize Framerate mode on the PS5. This mode enhances frame rates at the expense of some graphical detail.
The post further revealed that similar performance enhancements are being applied to the PC version, with a specific focus on reducing the recommended GPU requirements. "Performance will be improved in a similar way and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements," the tweet stated.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements for the game are set at NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. If Capcom's optimization efforts succeed, players might enjoy Monster Hunter Wilds on lower or mid-tier GPUs, making the game more accessible to a broader audience.
Additionally, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help players determine the optimal settings or assess if their PC can handle the game. This move could alleviate concerns about needing to upgrade systems, especially if the GPU requirements are successfully lowered.

During the initial open beta of Monster Hunter Wilds, held between October and November 2024, players encountered numerous performance issues. Steam users reported encountering low-poly NPCs and monsters, which many felt resembled graphics from the PS1 era.
Besides the unsettling visual quality, participants also noted significant frame rate drops and other performance hiccups, despite using high-end PCs. While some managed to enhance performance, this often came at the cost of further degrading the visual experience.
Capcom responded to these concerns on November 1, 2024, promising to fix the "afterimage noise" issue in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled. They assured that the full game would be in a significantly improved state compared to the beta.
Gamers won't have to wait long to experience these enhancements, as Capcom has scheduled a second Open Beta Test for Monster Hunter Wilds. This test, running from February 7-10 and 14-17, will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, and will feature encounters with the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and an undisclosed monster. It remains to be seen whether the latest performance updates will be included in this upcoming beta test.
