Elden Ring Nightreign: No In-Game Messages, But Other Asynchronous Features Enhanced

FromSoftware has confirmed a significant departure from the traditional Soulsborne formula for its upcoming title, Elden Ring Nightreign. The game will notably omit the in-game messaging system, a staple feature of the series.

This decision, according to game director Junya Ishizaki in a recent interview with IGN Japan, is purely practical. The anticipated shorter play sessions of approximately 40 minutes, compared to Elden Ring's often hours-long gameplay, leave insufficient time for players to engage with the messaging system. This system, known for fostering community interaction and adding a unique layer to the Soulsborne experience through both helpful and humorous messages, will be absent in Nightreign to maintain a faster pace.

However, the absence of messages doesn't signify the removal of all asynchronous gameplay elements. FromSoftware plans to enhance existing features. The bloodstain mechanic, for example, will return, offering players even more information and loot from fallen opponents' ghosts.

A More Focused, Intense Experience

This streamlining aligns with FromSoftware's vision for a more intense, multiplayer-focused experience in Nightreign. The game's three-day structure further supports this goal, aiming for a "compressed RPG" with maximized variety and minimal downtime.

While a 2025 release window was announced at TGA 2024, a precise launch date remains unconfirmed.
