Concerns about weapon design similarity in Monster Hunter Rise (Wilds is likely a typo) have been addressed by Director Yuya Tokuda. Unlike Monster Hunter: World, where weapon designs largely retained a base form with variations based on materials, Monster Hunter Rise features uniquely designed weapons.
Tokuda stated that while Monster Hunter: World weapons often shared similar designs, with customization primarily through material application, Monster Hunter Rise boasts a distinct design for each weapon. This contrasts with World, where even highly upgraded weapons sometimes retained a strong resemblance to their base forms. The image below illustrates this similarity in World's final Aqua and Pukei-Pukei Sword and Shield, and the final Bone and Jyuratodus Long Swords.
In comparison, the Monster Hunter Rise weapons shown below demonstrate the game's commitment to unique designs.
