Private servers are officially coming to Dune: Awakening—but not exactly as you might expect. Developer Funcom has confirmed that “rentable private servers” will be available from day one for players who opt into the game’s “head start” (early access) period, launching Thursday, June 5, well ahead of the full release on June 10, 2025.
“We’ve previously communicated that private servers were planned for post-launch,” Funcom shared in a recent update on the Steam store page, “but we’re happy to share that progress has been faster than expected.” However, the team emphasized that these servers come with intentional design choices—what they call “concessions”—to preserve the game’s signature large-scale multiplayer experience.
Each private server is part of a larger "World" made up of several other servers. All servers within a World share access to the same social hubs and the Deep Desert zone. This structure ensures players still experience the interconnected, MMO-style environment that defines Dune: Awakening.
“We decided early on that we did not want to remove the large-scale multiplayer aspects of the game,” the update explained. “That is such a crucial part of the Dune: Awakening experience, and the game’s content and mechanics are deeply rooted in this setup.”
As a result, private server customization is more limited compared to titles like Conan Exiles. You won’t be able to control or modify shared spaces like the social hubs or Deep Desert. Each private server will feature one Hagga Basin—just like the official servers—and you’ll choose which World your server belongs to during setup.
Despite the limitations, renting a private server offers meaningful perks:
"Enabling private servers for Dune: Awakening has not been trivial considering our unique large-scale multiplayer setup," Funcom noted. "It was important to us to retain the fundamental MMO-like gameplay that makes Dune: Awakening so unique."

Funcom concluded by saying they hope this model will appeal to players who prefer a more controlled environment while still enjoying the core multiplayer systems that make the game stand out. “We hope that the shared World structure will add an extra dimension without taking away from the unique content and mechanics that makes Dune: Awakening what it is.”
Originally delayed by three weeks to address issues discovered during beta testing, Dune: Awakening launches June 10, 2025, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
