Nakanishi emphasized that the game is built around creating a compelling sense of dread that keeps players hooked. Producer Masachika Kawata revealed that the team experimented with various concepts, including an online or open-world format, but ultimately discarded them to stay true to the series’ roots and fan expectations.

“‘Addictive fear’ means you’re terrified but can’t stop playing,” Nakanishi explained. Overcoming this fear delivers a profound sense of achievement for players.

Producer Masato Kumazawa envisions Grace resonating with players, much like Ethan Winters did in RE7. Her relatable struggles foster a deep emotional connection as the story unfolds. Kumazawa said, “She’s someone players will truly bond with.”

The developers prioritized Grace’s facial expressions and hair design to reflect her personality, leveraging advancements in the RE Engine and PRAGMATA’s “Strand” feature. Takano called the result a “visual triumph.”

Kumazawa explained, “It’s a requiem for Grace Ashcroft, dealing with her mother’s loss from eight years ago, and for those affected by the Raccoon City tragedy, among other themes. Finishing the game will reveal even deeper significance.”

Unlike RE7 and RE Village, which centered on the Winters family, RE9 returns to Raccoon City, a fitting choice as the series marks its 30th anniversary.

Third-Person View Added Based on Fan Input
