As Stellar Blade surpasses 3 million global sales, director Hyung-tae Kim announced that the confirmed sequel will deliver a "compelling" narrative.
In a discussion with This Is Game, via Genki, Kim shared that the team crafted a richer storyline for Eve and her companions, but high cutscene costs led to trimming much of the cinematics, leaving parts of the story untold. This explains the unanswered questions about Eve’s universe, including the frequent costume changes.
Although Shift Up considered adding cutscenes retroactively to clarify the story, Kim worried this might "conflict" with players’ existing understanding of the game. As a result, the sequel is set to offer a "robust and immersive narrative."
A sequel release isn’t imminent, as the team is currently focused on the PC port. Kim noted that Shift Up is aiming for a 2027 release, though.
The PC version of Stellar Blade, launched on June 11, has become Sony’s largest single-player Steam debut, with a peak of over 192,000 concurrent players. For comparison, Ghost of Tsushima reached 77,154 players, God of War hit 73,529, and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered peaked at 66,436. Only Sony’s multiplayer title Helldivers 2 has a higher concurrent player record.
IGN's Stellar Blade review gave it a 7/10, stating: "Stellar Blade excels in core action elements, but flat characters, a weak story, and some clunky RPG mechanics keep it from joining the genre’s elite."
PC-specific enhancements include AI upscaling with Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3, unlocked framerate, Japanese and Chinese voiceovers, ultrawide display support, enhanced environment textures, and DualSense compatibility for haptic feedback and trigger effects.
